Mariah Boone

Virtual Project Coordinator

Mariah is a North Carolina native and graduated from NC State University with a B.A. in Biology, which included cross-disciplinary study in Spanish and a minor in Health, Medicine, and Human Values. Her senior capstone project focused on the disparities in health outcomes for Spanish-speaking patients with limited English-proficiency. During undergrad she trained and worked as a medical assistant, while maintaining a role as a student volunteer with the Open Door Clinic in Raleigh, NC. It was through these experiences that she discovered a passion for serving vulnerable communities, clinical administration, and equitable resource distribution.

After graduation she relocated to the Northern VA/DC area where she held a position managing front desk operations and training for PT Solutions physical therapy while pursuing her Master’s degree in Health Administration from The George Washington University (GWU) Milken School of Public Health. Her thesis project focused on areas for growth within the outpatient for-profit space in regard to interventions addressing the social determinants of health. After graduation, she had the opportunity to pursue her passions further by breaking into the surgical equity space with the Center for Surgical Health. Mariah is fully committed to the creation of a sustainably just future, and in true Leo fashion, brings a mindset of positivity and determination to this goal. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cultivating her green thumb, and watching (too much) TV.
